Social perception research by Susan Fiske (Princeton) identified two primary dimensions people evaluate on sight: warmth and competence. These judgments happen in under 100 milliseconds and influence every subsequent interaction. Warmth determines intent (friend or foe?), while competence determines capability (can they act on that intent?). FirstVibe's AI evaluates both dimensions from your photo, plus three additional factors: approachability, style coherence, and charisma - providing a comprehensive map of how you're perceived.
Psychologist Simine Vazire's Self-Other Knowledge Asymmetry (SOKA) model demonstrates that we have blind spots about how we come across. You know your internal states (anxiety, motivation) better than others do. But others judge your observable traits (how friendly, confident, or attractive you appear) more accurately than you do. This perception gap is largest for exactly the traits that matter most in first impressions. AI analysis provides the 'other-perception' view that self-reflection cannot access.
The goal of understanding how people perceive you isn't to become someone else - it's to ensure who you are actually comes through in how you present yourself. Research on 'authentic self-presentation' (Human & Biesanz, 2012) found that people who present themselves accurately are perceived as more likeable and trustworthy. If the AI shows that you come across as more reserved than you feel, small expression adjustments can better convey your actual warmth. The most powerful perception changes come from alignment, not performance.
AI analyzes the same visual cues people process subconsciously - expression, style, energy, and body language. It predicts the snap judgments people make when they see you, which research shows are surprisingly consistent.
Because there's usually a gap between how you see yourself and how others see you. Understanding this gap helps you present yourself more authentically and make better first impressions in dating, work, and social life.
Similar but broader. The first impression test focuses on initial reactions. This goes deeper into ongoing perception - what people assume about your personality, trustworthiness, and social energy.
Honest, not harsh. Most people get a mix of positive and surprising insights. The goal isn't to make you feel bad - it's to close the gap between how you see yourself and how the world sees you.
